This past weekend, Tstaff upgraded our ownCloud instance to version 8.1.3, the latest stable release. To the best of our knowledge, everything is working as expected, but please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are experiencing any issues.
What is ownCloud you might ask? It's a departmentally hosted file syncronization system, similar to Google Drive and Dropbox. Why might you ask does the department run our own? Google Drive has no Linux clients and Dropbox has historically had issues with security, so bad in fact that CIS has an official policy that University business is not be conducted via Dropbox. By default, every faculty, staff, and graudate student have 20GB worth of storage available via ownCloud, more space if needed. Check out or webpage on the ownCloud service for more information.
